Chinese Five Spice BBQ Rub

This BBQ rub promises to elevate your grilling experience with its irresistible combination of sweet, spicy, and savory notes. With star anise lending its subtle licorice-like sweetness, cloves infusing a warm, pungent aroma, and Chinese cinnamon adding depth and complexity, each spice plays a vital role in creating a symphony of flavors.

Ingredients
  

  • 112 gram Golden Yellow Sugar ~ ½ cup (commonly referred to as brown)
  • 12 gram Fivespice Powder (https://communalfire.com/chinese-five-spice) 2 tbsp
  • 12 gram Kosher Salt 1 tbsp
  • 6 gram Onion, granulated ~2 tsp
  • 6 gram Garlic, granulated ~1.5 tsp

Instructions
 

  • Weigh / Measure out all of your spices, place them in a bowl and mix well ensuring there are no clumps.
  • Put finished rub into a spice container with a good seal. This will keep for 6-12 months depending on how fresh your spices are.

Notes

You will need the Chinese Five Spice recipe found on this site to complete this rub. 
Consider changing up this rub to fit your needs. We don't make it with garlic as I have a sensitivity to it. Think about changing the amount of sugar used in the recipe, add more salt if you would like. The Chinese Five Spice is light on this as many people find it to be an overpowering flavour combination.
